Good Afternoon,

Following a Loch Lomond National Park Stake Holders meeting earlier in the week please note that there was a petition to the Scottish Government about the planned upgrade of the A82 from Tarbet to Inverarnan.

The current planned upgrade is a combination of cuttings and other built out areas similar to that at Pulpit Rock.

A lot of people believe that this will have a very negative impact on the scenic beauty of the area.

From fish conservation viewpoint than either of these options has the potential to impact migratory and other fish given the number of spawning burns that enter Loch Lomond in this area. Careful management, monitoring and mitigation of any risks will be required.

The disruption to the A82 will be considerable, if you remember the effect when the road at the Pulpit Rock was upgraded taking many years with road closures etc.

There is an option to create a new road higher up and away from the Loch shore, if you think this is a better option, please sign the petition via the link below.

Please note, time is of the essence as the Scottish Government are discussing this on 27th Nov 24

As in the past, your committee at the L.L.A.I.A will highlight and attempt to all indicated watercourses and water environment will protected in terms of whatever final design and implementation works are undertaken. Given its location, some small burns that likely hold sea trout, and again we know what happens with the culverts after years of rain, fish cant ascend the burns due to washout at end of culvert and fish cant get thru.

Any works piling etc in the Loch itself is not considered an issue given its location.

Although this is the planned route, any road getting built or amended has an impact, so in some ways moving the road away from this planned lochside route just moves impact elsewhere, perhaps the only one is the visual impact from the Loch side.

We ask as a matter of urgency that all anglers and members be aware of and sign the petition as appropriate where you believe that a new road higher up is a better option – BEFORE 27th November
